Roam If You Want To

Among the list of fantastic things I did as a child, the Jump Rope team in elementary school is by far one of the more awesome. Ms. Coleson, our coach, had a serious love affair with the B52’s and the song “Roam”. Looking back now, it only makes sense. She drove a Subaru station wagon, wore environmentally friendly clothing, and was often seen sporting tree hugger clogs.
Don’t get me wrong. The B52’s are cool, but for three years (yep, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade) our Jump Rope team performed strictly and only to “Roam”. We roamed in parades. We roamed during chapel. We roamed at try-outs. If Ms. Coleson had it her way, we probably would have been roaming in our sleep. Now everytime I hear that song, I am convinced you can hear the slap of our plastic jump ropes as they hit the ground. Valiant efforts were made to convince her to branch out a bit. Before you even ask, Ace of Base’s “The Sign” was a no go from the start, but whateve, roam if you want to…
Admittedly, we were not nearly as good as these girls. However, let the record show we did have some pretty gnarly red jackets with our names on them. Prepare to be mesmerized. The most awesome 8 mins of jump rope wizardry awaits… King Firecrackers
