Happy Halloween

October 31, 2012 § 4 Comments

Happy Halloween y’all! This year I had a hard time committing to a costume. Gabby Douglas and the Coppertone Baby got tossed around. Ultimately, the weather dictated what I was going to be. Forty degrees and the Coppertone baby are not a match made in heaven.

I give myself extra points this year for coming up with my DIY costume the same day I planned to celebrate Halloween. A couple of stops at Spirit Halloween and Joann Fabrics and few buttons sewed on my Forever 21 sweater and…TA DA! Donald Duck.

Another highlight of Halloween in NOLA? The decorations along St. Charles. Check out the bones in the yard below!  « Read the rest of this entry »

Kick your feet up

October 20, 2012 § Leave a comment

After an excruciatingly long day in the courtroom, I get so antsy to be home. I’m barely through the front door when I rip my blazer off and chuck my heels across the floor. The further I can kick them the better. Out of sight, out of mind.

On the 4th of July and feeling confident in our hiking skills, we took on a 5.5 hour challenge. 30 minutes into our hike, MG turned to me, “You wanna go back? Let’s just go back.” Finding my breath, “I don’t like to half ass things. We are almost there. We’ll kick our feet up in Napa.” So we weren’t almost there. We had some five hours to go, but the views were worth it.

“Napa, next?” It was all MG had to say and my hiking boots went flying across the hotel room. Deuces Yosemite. It’s been real. It’s crazy days in court when I silently take a head trip to Napa Valley. Won’t you join me? « Read the rest of this entry »

Roughin’ It–Yosemite

“What’s this a pajama party? Is this what you call roughing it?…One bathroom for 9 people, yes.” Oh, Phyllis. What a troop-er (sorry, it was right there). Troop Beverly Hills is such a classic cinematic masterpiece.

Troop 350 was our troop number from second grade until the time I graduated high school. You read that right. High school, kids. High school. Mom would not let me quit. The same was true for two of my other friends. A consequence of our mothers being the troop leaders I guess. When the other girls said deuces, the three of us were camping on Cumberland Island, earning badges for learning how to surf, and selling girl scout cookies.

Mom, much like the beloved Phyllis Nefler, has a flair for the unnecessary, however, stylish. One year at Camp Timber Ridge Mom had Harry’s Farmers Market (equivalent of Whole Foods) cater our dinner. And to be completely over the top, Mom pulled from the back of the family Suburban, China, sterling silver, and white linens. She received a few side-eye glances from the other troop moms, but Phyllis would have been proud.

As Promised…

Driving Across the Golden Gate

Promises. Promises. My California adventure seemed so long ago. Summer went out with a bang. New Orleans battled Hurricane Isaac. A dear friend became terribly terribly ill only to make the most miraculous recovery. And BIG changes are happening at work. Fall is a welcome change–as is keeping my word.

As promised, here is a round up of the San Francisco leg of our summer vacation.
